ONŠOVICE 1997 – 1998. / Photo: Viktor Fischer, Afisphoto. Onšovice, a village of fifteen farmhouses half way between Humpolec and Pelhřimov, there has never been a pub and it does not have a shop. You would not see any people during the day, as majority of the inhabitants found a job in town when the local coop was dissolved. Vaňha’s farm nationalised in the fifties was returned in restitutions to the grandson of the former owners in 1992. Petr Vondrák, who was twenty one at that time, purchases the most needed machinery and relates to the work of his grandfather together with his wife, parents, three employees and all relatives helping whenever they have time. In 1997 the farmer was working 150 hectares of fields, owned the total of 120 pieces of cattle. Milk represented an important source of income.
The family generates vast majority of foodstuffs for their own use from meat through fruit compote to squash. Only a few people come to the village square when the travelling shop arrives every Tuesday afternoon….
The authors wish to thank the Universities’ Development Fund for its grant assistance.
The author of photographs would like to thank to the family, relatives and employees of the farm for help and patience at the times when the work was created.
Photographs were taken from spring 1997 to January 1998
